feelings, moods, vibes
Parafolk experience 11 distinct emotions - 4 positive and 7 negative - that shape autonomy decisions, social interactions, and skill learning.
Two systems combine to drive every mood
Emotions sit on top of two systems: the Vibe personality trait category determines how quickly a Parafolk recovers from a negative state, and status effects layer on top, pushing and pulling mood based on needs, relationships, and environmental conditions.
Skills + Together Cards both gate on emotion
Some skills learn faster in specific moods (Inspired accelerates creative XP). Many Together Cards only show up when a Parafolk is feeling a particular way - so managing emotion is also unlocking story outcomes.
Showing 11 emotions.
There are 11 emotions in Paralives: Happy, Sad, Stressed, Angry, Bored, Inspired, Disgusted, Embarrassed, Amused, Flirty, and Uncomfortable. Each emotion influences Parafolk behavior, available interactions, and skill learning speed in distinct ways.
Emotions in Paralives are driven by the Vibe system, which responds to needs, social interactions, environmental conditions, and life events. Status effects can push a Parafolk toward or away from specific emotional states. Personality traits in the Vibe category determine how quickly a Parafolk recovers from negative emotions and how intensely they experience positive ones.
Yes. Emotions directly influence Parafolk autonomy decisions, determining which activities they choose to do without player input. Certain interactions are only unlocked or more likely to succeed in specific emotional states. Skill learning speed is also affected - for example, the Inspired emotion grants bonus experience gains for creative and intellectual skills.
The Vibe system is the Paralives personality trait category that governs emotional tendencies and resilience. Parafolk with an Optimistic Vibe trait bounce back from negative emotions faster and spend more time in positive states. The Vibe system works alongside needs and status effects to determine an emotional state at any given moment.
