Death
Death in Paralives
how lives end (and how to stop it) — There are 5 ways a Parafolk can die: starvation, exhaustion, old age, fire, and a badly chosen mushroom. Here's how each one happens, how to prevent it, and the safety nets the game throws in before it ever gets that far.
The Five Ways to Die
Parafolk die from starvation when their Hunger need reaches a critically low level and stays there too long.
Extreme exhaustion can be fatal: Parafolk who ignore their Sleep need for too long will collapse and die.
Elders who reach the end of their natural lifespan will pass away peacefully from old age.
Parafolk caught in a fire can burn to death if not rescued or extinguished in time.
Eating a poisonous wild mushroom can be lethal. Only non-Elder Parafolk are affected.
Built-In Safety Valves
While not actually fatal, Parafolk with critically low Bladder needs will have an embarrassing accident.
When the Bladder need hits critical, Parafolk drop everything and sprint to the nearest toilet.
Parafolk stop what they're doing when Hunger becomes critical and seek food immediately.
At night, critically tired Parafolk abandon their activity to go to bed.
When the Bladder need is critical, Parafolk rush to find a bathroom.
NPCs will end interactions with Parafolk who have very low Hygiene.
Parafolk who become extremely bored will leave social groups and seek entertainment.
Highly embarrassed Parafolk flee social situations to be alone.
During the day, critically tired Parafolk take a nap instead of going to bed.

Death FAQ
How do Parafolk die in Paralives?
There are exactly five causes of death: starvation, exhaustion, old age, fire, and mushroom poisoning. Everything else, bladder accidents, embarrassment, boredom, is uncomfortable but never fatal.
Can babies or children die in Paralives?
No. None of the game's death causes apply to babies or toddlers, instead they cry, nap on the spot, or throw tantrums when neglected. Mushroom poisoning is the only death that targets younger Parafolk specifically, and it comes from eating a poisonous wild mushroom.
Can you die of old age in Paralives?
Yes. Elders pass away peacefully when they reach the end of their natural lifespan. It's the only death that can't be prevented. Interestingly, Elders are immune to mushroom poisoning.
How dangerous is fire in Paralives?
Dangerous if ignored, manageable if caught early. Fire spreads to nearby objects roughly every 15 minutes and each object burns about 5 minutes. Everyone on the lot panics when it starts, extinguish the source quickly and keep Parafolk away from the flames.
