Alchemy in Graveyard Keeper 2

28 formulas, 63 ingredients and 6,960 working mixes - all decided by three coloured runes.

Every alchemy ingredient carries red, green and blue runes. Put two ingredients (Laboratory I) or three (Laboratory II) into the mix, and if their runes add up exactly to a formula's runes, you brew it. Nothing else about the ingredients matters: Clay and Sand are interchangeable in every formula, because each is one red rune.

Study an ingredient before the laboratory will take it

An ingredient whose runes you have not uncovered is refused. Study one of it at the Study Table first (it costs the item, some faith and science, and pays tech points). A mix may never go above 5 runes of any one colour.

How a mix works

    Study the ingredient

    The Study Table reveals an item's runes. Until then it cannot go into a mix.

    Stock flasks and fuel

    Every brew uses Alchemy Flasks from the Flask shelf and fuel. Keep the shelf stocked or the laboratory will not start.

    Match the runes exactly

    Two ingredients at Laboratory I, up to three at Laboratory II. The runes of the ingredients are added up colour by colour; one rune too many or too few makes nothing. 22 of the 28 formulas can be made from two ingredients.

    Record it in the Folio

    A formula has to be known (most are unlocked through the technology tree) and every one you discover is written into the Folio.

Every ingredient and its runes

Sorted by how many formulas an ingredient appears in. The 19 Alchemic Powders are the pure building blocks: each carries exactly the runes shown in its name, so one powder can round off almost any mix.

Battle potions

12 of the formulas are potions you can only drink during a battle: healing, damage, attack speed for your whole side, and stamina that never runs out.

Alchemy questions

What happens if my runes are one short?

Nothing is brewed. The match has to be exact in every colour - a flask that comes out at 2 red and 1 green is a different formula (or none) from one at 2 red. Swap one ingredient for another with the missing rune, or use an Alchemic Powder to add exactly one.

Which laboratory do I need?

Laboratory I takes two ingredients, Laboratory II takes three. 6 formulas have no two-ingredient mix at all - Berserker Potion III, Reanimation Liquid, Tannin Liquid, Alkali, Umami and Philosopher Stone - so they need Laboratory II.

Can I use organs in alchemy?

Only the best ones. Gold-quality hearts, brains and guts carry runes (a dark heart is 1 red and 2 blue, a dark brain 3 blue), and so do Flesh and Blood. Lower-quality organs carry none.

Why are the cheapest mixes on each formula page ranked by sell value?

Because that is the stock you lose least by using up. Many gathered ingredients - clay, sand, berries, mushrooms - have no sell value, so a mix of them costs you nothing you could have sold.
