How it works

More mastery, fewer ticks

Every tick at a workbench adds the crafter's mastery divided by the recipe's required mastery (rounded down, at most 3) to the progress bar. At twice the requirement a craft finishes in half the ticks, and for half the energy.

Stations questions

When can an unlocked recipe not be started?

When an ingredient, the Fuel, or the needed extension or tool is missing, or the mastery is below the recipe's requirement. Energy is paid per tick: a started craft stops when the energy runs out. A normal recipe cannot be worked at all below its required mastery; the recipe card shows the level it needs next to the mastery icon. Star crafts and autopsy work are the exception: they can be attempted below the requirement, with a chance per tick instead of a guaranteed step.

What does a higher station tier add?

Most higher tiers add recipes. The higher furnace, anvil, woodworking, kitchen and factory tiers make everything the tier below them does; each station page lists what its next tier adds. Kitchen Oven II and Embalming Table II add no recipe: each of their ticks takes half as long. Compost Pile II and Crematorium II swap their one recipe for a bigger one, Firewood shed II holds 500 Fuel instead of 100, and Autopsy Table II has the same operations as Autopsy Table I.

What are extensions?

Pieces built next to a station that unlock some of its recipes: a Tool Rack or Fine Tool Rack beside the woodworking and stonemason benches, a Hardening Bucket beside the anvils, Bellows or a Casting Table beside the furnaces, and the attachments of the factory benches.
