What raises and lowers energy and insanity
- What causes insanity
- Digging a grave, burying a body, exhuming a grave and autopsies generate insanity. While the Keeper has Lack of sleep, every point of energy spent adds half a point of insanity.
- Refilling energy
- Food and potions refill energy when used from the inventory. Sleeping in the bed restores it too.
- Reducing insanity
- Sleeping off Lack of sleep (-20 insanity once energy is full), and the drinks, food and potions under Insanity reducers below.
- Saving
- The game saves automatically after sleep.

Elder's meal, Fisherman's pie, Fried golden carp, Heavenly salmon and Kraken steak add more than their tooltips list: eating one adds its tech points once for every colour of point it lists, and its energy once more than that. Elder's meal gives 120 energy and 90 red + 90 green + 90 blue points, where its tooltip lists 30 energy and 30 red + 30 green + 30 blue. Energy never goes above the bar's maximum.

Steamed Up: You feel refreshed after your sauna: food gives +10% energy. A Burger goes from 80 to 88 energy. The Sauna is a pre-order building.
How it works
Crafting, gathering, digging, studying and fighting all cost energy. Insanity is the second bar, and it lowers the first one: maximum energy is 100 minus insanity, so at 80 insanity (the cap) the bar holds 20 energy.
Lack of sleep starts after two full days without sleep. While it lasts, every point of energy spent adds half a point of insanity, and everything that lowers insanity lowers it by only half as much. Sleeping until energy is full ends it and removes 20 insanity.

What restores the most energy?
Elder's meal (+120, the tooltip lists 30), Energy Potion III (+100), Fisherman's pie (+80, the tooltip lists 20). Of the foods, the Elder's meal restores the most: +120. Energy never goes above the bar's maximum of 100 minus insanity.
What lowers insanity?
Sleeping off Lack of sleep (-20 once energy is full), and these consumables: Krotowuha (-50), Wine (gold) (-35), Wine (silver) (-30), Wine (bronze) (-25). While Lack of sleep lasts, they remove only half as much.
What is the insanity cap?
Insanity stops at 80. The Iron Will perk lowers that ceiling to 70, which keeps at least 30 maximum energy.
