How this tame works

  1. For 15s after an egg lands it charges no ineffectiveness, so eggs given back to back inside that window cost you nothing.
  2. Only fertilized eggs work. It ignores unfertilized ones completely.
  3. Hurting it costs progress in proportion to the damage, and costs effectiveness on top. Take its progress all the way to zero and the attempt is released entirely, so you start over rather than resuming.
  4. Every egg it accepts is worth the same full 500 progress, so there is no better one to hunt for. Bring whichever is cheapest to get hold of.

More about taming the Basilisk

The Basilisk is a tamable, carnivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. Classified under the DMG group.

Starting at 2,750 Health, it's extremely durable. Melee starts at 100% - solid damage output that scales with level-ups. Its base Stamina of 650 gives it exceptional endurance. Weight capacity starts at 800, giving it massive inventory space.

As a tame, the Basilisk pulls double duty as both a capable resource harvester and pack animal. Breeding produces fertilized eggs that hatch within a 32°C–38°C temperature window. Killing a wild Basilisk yields 4 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.78 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
